The State Business License Fee is administered and collected by the Secretary of State's office (not the Dept. of Taxation). As a result the State Business License fee MUST be paid along with the Annual List Filing Fee to maintain good standing with the Secretary of State.
Once Incorporated, a Nevada Entity is required to pay for a State Business License. The filing Fee is currently $200.00 for an LLC or $500.00 for a Corporation (since July 1st. 2015). We include this with ALL
incorporation packages. Most other incorporating companies either invoice you for this after they ship your corporate documents or they just don't tell you about this requirement at all in order to keep their prices artificially low. The fee is paid to the Secretary of State, when the "Initial List" is due, then again annually.
NRS 76.180 was amended in October 2013 to include stiff penalties for failing to renew a business license while still operating a business as follows:
1. Every person (corporation or LLC) who conducts a business in this State and who willfully fails or neglects to obtain or renew a state business license as required by this chapter and to pay the fees required by NRS 76.100 and 76.130 is subject to a fine of not less than $1,000 but not more than $10,000, to be recovered in a court of competent jurisdiction. (by the district attorney)
PLEASE NOTE: The only clients that we have that are eligible for a Business License fee exemption are entities whose "primary purpose is to
create or produce motion pictures".
PLEASE NOTE: The above does not change any COUNTY or CITY business license filing requirement. Our clients still benefit from the fact that
Douglas County does not require (or issue) County or City Business Licenses. If your "Corporate Offices" or "
Base of Operations" is based in Las Vegas, Reno or Carson City you will be required to pay for and obtain a COUNTY or CITY business license and in doing so, reveal ownership information.
